When wearing D’s Knees for the first time, please take a moment to follow these simple steps. D’s Knees are a little different from conventional knee pads, and I want you to have the best experience possible!
1) When putting on the D’s Knees for the first time, please sit down with knees bent 90 degrees or more.
2) Adjust both straps so they are at the maximum length.
3) Hold the knee pad against the front of your knee, so the narrow end is down. The bottom part should always touch your shin.
4) Connect bottom buckle, and shorten the strap until it is short enough to prevent the knee cap from slipping down your leg. DO NOT MAKE THE STRAP TIGHT! Trust me on this, ok?
5) With the upper elastic strap still disconnected, stand up. The D’s Knees cap should stay in place on your leg. The top of the cap should touch your knee just barely above the top of your patella (knee cap).
6) To adjust positioning, either shorten or lengthen the bottom strap. Never make either of the straps tight!
(Loosening the strap moves the cap down, and tightening it moves it up. This works because diameter of your calf is larger than the diameter of your knee. It’s like a funnel, and the knee cap can’t slip down you leg if the strap length is smaller than the diameter of your calf.)
7) To test if they are positioned correctly, try to kneel. If your knee lands inside the cap and you feel pressure on your shin, then they are fitting you correctly. If you do not feel pressure on your shin, or if the knee cap is sticking out in front of your knee, slightly loosen the bottom strap and test again.
8) Once the bottom strap is adjusted, connect the upper strap. Like the bottom strap, KEEP The UPPER STRAP LOOSE! The bottom strap does all the work of holding up the knee cap. The top strap just prevents it from moving around when you walk.
9) If you feel that either strap is tight and uncomfortable, please review the instructions. The straps should never be tight! I know, it’s weird. Everyone instinctively pulls the straps tight, but please don’t do that.
Once you get your D’s Knees adjusted, they will stay in adjustment. It may take a few attempts initially to understand how the fit and how it feels to wear them, but once you get it, it’s pretty much set it and forget it.
I wear these things all day every day, and I’ve been doing this for years! I put them on when I start my first job, and I take them off when I am done for the day. They don’t slip down, and they don’t spin around on my knees. And they are alwaysin the right place when I go to kneel.
